So what is the reason behind the itch you experience every day? To give you a brief picture of how weird and  embarrassed you might look while going through this experience, try to imagine the president of your country giving a speech on air, let’s say, on C.N.N; and there and then an incessant prickle grips him in a way that he couldn’t comport himself any longer.

In 1660, Samuel Hafenreffer first defined itching as "an unpleasant desire to scratch." According to scientists, the badass culprit behind itching is dermatitis (an inflammation of the skin often caused by anything that can irritate the skin).
While some nerve fibers were created to take care of the transmission of the feelings of pain and touch from the point of its occurrence on the skin to the brain, we also have others which were diligently dedicated to the transmission of itch sensation.

What is the causes of itchy skin?

During an allergic reaction, that might have being triggered by the contact of the skin with any substance which it is allergic to.  Histamine, an amine compound and a protein is released; it commands and activates the action of some of the nerves that takes care of our itchy sensation. The nerves transmit the information to the spinal cord where it is processed and sent off to the brain. Do you know that the sites that this type of info hits and activates in the brain when we itch are very similar to those parts activated when we're in pains?  Antihistamine drug perform their own task by disabling the protein's signaling powers.
However, the action of histamine on histamine sensitive nerve fibers isn't the only chemicals in the body that cause why we itch.  Other stuffs are responsible, let us take a glance through them.
Fibers sensitive to itch were first discovered so many years ago by Doctor Schmelz.  He has found that there is an existence of nerve fibers that stimulate itchy feelings in a different way than the histamine-sensitive nerves he previously identified.
He said, "It is evident that there are more than just one type of nerve fiber involved in the itch sensation," Schmelz said. "A lot of information has been generated related to histamine-sensitive itch fibers and currently new types of itch fibers are being investigated, which might help to explain the chronic itch condition more completely."
Together with several other itch researchers, Schmelz presented his findings at the Third International Workshop for the Study of Itch in Germany, “can’t remember the date”. The meeting's notes were published in the September Journal of Investigative Dermatology.

Furthermore, Itchy skin can also be caused by the occurrence of some unfortunate things or it might show up as a symptom of many conditions. Which includes your body’s reaction to an exposure to certain species of plants and plants leaves, weather can also have a role to play in the reasons why we itch.
Living organisms like, Mosquitoes, mites, snails, lice can make us itch if we happen to come in contact with them. While dry skin and conditions like stress and anxiety, infections and sun burn can trigger up an itch. Lastly, Soaps and Jewelries can also be arraigned together with the culprits.

Finally, before I will draw the curtains down here. Scratching your itchy skin is the quickest fix when the prickle occurs, but severe clawing on the itching area can result to bleeding or infections. Dr Carstens finalized it all with his explanation why scratching seems so sweet that you feel you've arrived unto the paradise, the Dr said that when you  claw on the itching area it might turn on nerves that stimulate pleasure systems in the brain.
