water

Three quarters of our body is made up of water and our body needs water to help the
body to function. We need to drink at least 1.5 liters of water to balance water
losses and to keep our body hydrated.

Water helps the body to
1. Transport nutrients
2. Regulate body temperature
3. Get rid of toxins and waste
4. Metabolism
5. Healthy cells

There are alternative ways to stay hydrated besides drinking water. Try some
healthy food to stay hydrated if you do not like the taste of water.

Food that helps to keep the body hydrated:

  • Watermelon

I would say that this is the number one thirst quencher. It has a good
source of potassium, vitamin A and C. You could either eat it by itself as a fruit
or cut some cubes and put them into a jug of water to make it into a fruit infused
drink.

  • Cucumber –

It contains vitamin C, which is good for the skin. The flesh of cucumbers
contains 96% water. You could cut them into slices or cubes to combine with other
fruits for example lettuce, strawberries to make a salad for a afternoon meal. It is
healthy and definitely a way to keep slim.

  • Lettuce –

This vegetable contains vitamin K and folate. It doesn't need to be
cooked and this makes it very convenient to eat. One could use it as a bed for
healthy salad, use it as a wrap for chicken fillet or even eat it by itself.

  • Celery –

Celery is generally not liked because it doesn't taste nice to most. It is
high in fiber and rich in minerals like potassium. It is a natural remedy for
heartburn and acid reflux. Cut the celery into stalks and dip them into yogurt as a
healthy snack or cut them into cubes and mix them with other vegetables to make into
a salad.

  • Tomatoes –

Have a small tub of cherry tomatoes on your work desk to you’re your body
hydrated. 94% of the tomato’s weight is water. The antioxidants in tomato help to
fight heart disease and cancer. Stock up on this hydrating snack.

  • Carrots –

Studies have found that compounds in carrots help protect the skin and
good for the eyes. It has powerful antioxidant too. Like the tomatoes, you could
stock it up as a snack or mix it with salad.

  • Radish –

This crunchy textured vegetable is filled with antioxidant and it goes well
in salads. It has a water content of about 95%.

  • Fat Free Milk –

This is an excellent source of calcium and women need them to
decrease the risk of bone fracture. It is a good alternative for people who do not
like the taste of water.

Have you ever noticed that some days your urine is of a pale yellow color while some
days are darker? When you see that your urine is of a darker color, drink more water
or increase your intake of higher water content food like those mentioned above.
