The history of vinegar can be traced back to the nineteenth century. It was very important to the Romans as it was mixed with other variety of plants, oils to manufacture products which were of great importance to mankind, industrially, medicinally and domestically. up to this our present day, so many of these products are still are still in use today or has being modified to fit our present modern world. Vinegar is a liquid consisting only of acetic acid and water. It is produced mainly by the fermentation of ethanol.
Apple cider vinegar, abbreviated as ACV is a variety of vinegar made from cider or apple must. It has a pale, amber color. In our present world it is used for so many purposes where it has proved its prowess.

  • • It is an effective weight loss supplement to consider.

  • • It helps to aid digestion when taking as a food supplement.

  • • According to researches it helps in treating diabetes.

  • • It is of great benefits to the hair when used as a hair rinse.

For the benefit of this post’s clarity, I will be focusing on  how to prepare a home made apple cider vinegar hair rinse and its benefits to the hair. Maybe in my future posts I will be engaging on the other listed capabilities of apple cider vinegar. Let me start by going a little bit deep into the structure of the hair as this may help us to understand this information easily. The outer covering or layer of a strand of hair is covered by the cuticle. It covers the hair shaft and protects it like the bark on a tree. The cuticle is made up of layers that lie; overlapping each other along the surface of the hair, forming a scaly like structure. The condition of this cuticle determines the smoothness and how lovely your hair will be.

An apparently old study shows that when the cuticle is unbroken, flat and undisturbed, your hair will show a smooth appearance. When the layers of the overlapping cuticle are tightly joined together, the sun is able to hit and bounce back and this gives the hair its shiny appearance. When the joints on the cuticle are open, not tightly held together, the sun will not be able to reflect back rather it will be absorbed into the hair, giving your hair a dull, ugly appearance, and also there will be an excess build up of scaly structures on the overlapping cuticle.
If the hair happens to be in the last condition I stated above, the presence of vinegar on the hair will help close up the cuticle, trim off the excess scaly structures and residue from the hair shaft.

Vinegar Rinse Recipe
Ingredients when using herbs:

  • • 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar

  • • Herbs of choice

  • • 2 cups of boiling water

  • • Water, to dilute the forthcoming apple vinegar hair rinse.

Directions for use with herbs

  • Mix Your Apple Cider Vinegar with your hot water.

  • Add your herbs and cover the mixture for at least 15-30 minute, make sure you don’t apply the mixture when it is extremely hot or cold because hot apple cider vinegar hair rinse can damage your scalp and cause so much pain, while cold apple cider vinegar hair rinse will not be able to remove chemicals and dandruff from the hair scalp. The more concentrated the apple cider vinegar inside the mixture the more increase in the strength of its hair treatment.

  • First wash your hair with normal shampoo. Then rinse the shampoo off. While the hair is still wet apply your warm solution of ACV and massage it on your scalp. Allow the rinse on your hair for some time; say 15-20 minutes before rinse. This will give enough time for the removal of harmful chemicals and dandruff from the hair.

  • Rinse your hair normally with fresh water. Then towel dry your hair.

Ingredients when using with Essential oil:

  • • 2 cups of cider vinegar

  • • 5-10 drops of essential oil E.g lavender

Direction of use with Essential oil
1. Mix vinegar with essential oils
2. When ready, dilute ½ tablespoon of the vinegar essential oil mixture in one cup of water.
3. Apply the mixture on your hair
4. Rinse it out with fresh water, for extra conditioning benefits, just leave it in and towel dry the hair. The apple cider vinegar hair rinse  scent will vanish as your hair dries.
