French Drugmaker Successfully Completes Dengue Vaccine Study

According to a report from (Reuters) this morning, French drugmaker, Sanofi announced that

the first of two Phase III clinical studies of a proposed dengue vaccine had been successfully completed,  and a significant
reduction in cases of the disease was witnessed.

Dengue fever is a disease caused by a family of viruses that are transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. symptoms includes headache, fever, exhaustion, severe muscle and joint pain, swollen lymph nodes (lymphadenopathy), and rash. Other names for the fever is:
breakbone or dandy fever.

For the fact that dengue fever is caused by a virus, there is no specific medicine or antibiotic to
treat it yet until now. the treatments that has being used before includes the relief of the symptoms, intake of fluids to replace the loss in hydration, rest, Aspirin and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs which are  taken under strict doctor's supervision because of
the possibility of worsening bleeding. Also, Acetaminophen (Tylenol) and codeine may be given for severe headache and
for joint and muscle pain (myalgia)

Sanofi, will be conducting a
second study in Latin America later on to conclude his study and research. He said the
first trial carried out in Asia had shown a reduction of 56% of dengue disease cases.

Sanofi is a multinational pharmaceutical company headquartered in Paris, France. In the global ranking in 2014, Sanofi ranked the world's fifth-largest by
prescription sales. The company was formed in 2004 as Sanofi aventis but changed its name to
Sanofi in May 2011.
